ArtWorks is now seeking a local business to act as a Program Partner for one of our Fall 2014 Arts Internships for High School Students.
Program Description: Interns will learn about the media's depiction of youth identity and create art that debunks stereotypes through self representation. Under the guidance of Lead Artist Kim Loper, interns will explore a variety of media including printmaking, painting and collage. Through a partnership with a local business, interns will create a final large scale work of art to be displayed in the business's space, that corrects any preconceived notions that Milwaukee may have about them. The interns will have the opportunity to develop a professional relationship with the business and will gain real world experience in what it means to be a creative contractor.
How You Can Help:
- We are searching for a partner business to provide donated program and display space for nine high school interns, one Lead Artist and a Program Volunteer to work on the art project for eight weeks. The space could be an empty meeting room, a classroom, or another large, open room.
- A contact person from your business would ideally be involved in the program, visiting the team a few times throughout the process, and providing guidelines and feedback on what type of art would be displayed in the space. You are the "Client," and ArtWorks interns are the "Contractors," making this a real life work experience for young people.
- Upon completion of the program, the artwork would be installed in your space temporarily or indefinitely. (ideally in an area with relatively good public visibility/traffic).
