The mural will be unveiled at the International Food and Art Walk on September 7th, sponsored by Layton Boulevard West Neighbors and Art Milwaukee. The mural will be installed on the northern wall of Radtke Salt Co., 3516 W. Pierce Street, just a few doors east of the Urban Ecology Center and the pedestrian entrance to the Hank Aaron State Trail. The mural will face a portion of the trail, just west of the newly opened Three Bridges Park.
You are encouraged to attend the International Food and Art Walk on September 7th between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm to support the ArtWorks for Milwaukee interns and experience the piece. Throughout the project, interns focused on artistic and job skill development as well as mural design development and drafting.
The mural celebrates the life and people of the historic Silver City community and was developed through collecting intergenerational input from local neighbors. Phil Atilano, professional artist, supervised the project.
The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design donated their facilities for development and creation of the mural, which is painted on a number of large panels that will be bolted to the building. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Milwaukee Arts Board and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin.
