What to Expect from ArtWorks

1. Lead Artist Stipends:
  • Selected Lead Artist stipends are paid out in three lump sums:

One third of the total stipend is paid out once program apprentices have been interviewed, selected, and onboarded during the Fundamentals Day orientation on the first day of each program

One third of the total stipend is paid after the mid-point performance evaluations have been completed

One third of the total stipend is paid after all final performance evaluations are completed, and all apprentice letters of recommendation have been submitted

    • Current stipends are
    • $2,000.00 for a 10 hour per week program (fall & spring)
    • $4,000.00 for a 20 hour per week program (summer)
    • Stipends include time spent running the program, all prep time, and all time required for apprentice candidate interviews, final selections, performance reviews, and the creation of letters of recommendation.
  •

2. Job Training:
  • Training is provided to each selected Lead Artist to teach them about the ArtWorks organization and our processes & procedures. We also provide information and strategies for managing diverse teams of at-risk high school students.

3. Office/Studio Space:
  • Office/studio space is available at our location: 706 South 5th Street. This space can be reserved for programs on a first-come, first-served basis, at no charge to the Lead Artist. If other space is used for any ArtWorks program, it will be at the cost of the Lead Artist, must be located within the city of Milwaukee, AND be easily accessible by Milwaukee Public Transportation.

4. Travel:
  • If travel is a required part of your proposed program, be aware that all travel will have to occur on public transportation. ArtWorks for Milwaukee, Inc. cannot and will not assume any liability for any other form of transportation. In addition, Apprentices may be responsible for the costs of all needed bus tickets.

5. Program Schedules:
  • Scheduling of programs is primarily based upon the availability of the Lead Artist, the maximum number of hours each Apprentice may work, Child Labor laws of allowable working hours, and the availability of ArtWorks staff to support the program.
    • When school is in session, Apprentices may not work more than 10 hours per week, and these hours must occur outside of school hours.
    • When school is not in session, Apprentices may not work more than 20 hours per week.
    • Other considerations for the number of hours Apprentices are allowed to work include ArtWorks’ availability of funds to pay Apprentices.
